Operations Technician Jobs

If you are an organized and mechanically-savvy person with solid leadership skills, you may find opportunities in the oil and gas industry as an operations technician. The job of an operations technician combines safety, reliability, process operation, efficiency, administrative, and managerial requirements to keep an onshore or offshore platform running smoothly.

Operations technicians, sometimes called process technicians, are in great demand in the Gulf Coast area, across the U.S., and in countries around the world. These professionals are involved in virtually every aspect of chemical processing, from extracting chemicals such as oil and natural gas in their raw form, refining them, and carefully monitoring the whole process. Much of an operations technician’s shift is spent doing round, “running the board,” and checking to make certain that operations are running smoothly.

Operations technicians arrange for the repair and replacement of instruments and control systems, continuously checking all operations so that a malfunction is identified and corrected immediately. A large part of the technician’s job is to provide training to team members on relevant industry processes and equipment operations safety, and to keep up with the latest technology regarding equipment, industry knowledge, and the software necessary to perform the job.

The main responsibility of an operations technician is to provide a safe work environment for employees. This includes monitoring equipment and taking action when troubleshooting sends up a red flag. Operations technicians are expected to continuously study and assess data to make sure safety protocol is maintained.
