Becoming a lease or contract administrator is a good way to launch a career in the oil and gas industry if you have a college degree and would like to learn the administrative side of the business. Lease and contract administrators perform different duties, depending on the company and the job, but typically their job is to prepare contracts or leases and to ensure that all company requirements are met, that federal, state, and local requirements and laws are met, and that safety and other policies and procedures have also been incorporated into the contract. While the company landman can spend time out in the field “landing” and negotiating a contract, the administrator works primarily in an in-office administrative capacity to make sure that all the legal ducks are in a row and that all sides’ legal rights are considered and represented. Of course, the contract must first meet the company’s needs.<\/p>\n
