Typically, these pipelines are buried beneath the ground and many things can happen to cause damage, corrosion, or leaks. Since natural gas and oil are considered hazardous substances, there are strict environmental regulations that companies must follow to keep workers and consumers safe. Pipeliners or technicians perform routine checks on all pipelines to ensure they are functioning properly, and when there are any issues, they may perform some or all repairs.
