Process Engineers monitor the daily workings of the refinery with the goal of optimizing output and minimizing unit operating cost to essentially make the plant run more cost effectively. Process Engineers study and report on the efficiency of unit equipment and unit interrelationships and take part in the development process of refinery projects. This includes calculating and analyzing cost estimates, piping & instrumentation design (P&ID) development, and evaluating the feasibility of startup projects. Process Engineers should also have the ability to assume managerial duties when called upon.
