Training to Become a Pipeliner

The basic educational requirement for a pipeliner is a high school diploma or GED. As mentioned, some companies also offer pipeliner trainee positions. You will work in one of these positions for up to one year, and receive a salary as well as the training and education.

However, your pay rate will be lower than other pipeliners who have already completed the training.

All construction workers or any worker whose job includes work on a gas or oil pipeline must also become trained to meet the U.S. Department of Transportation‘s requirements. All companies that perform work on pipelines must make sure that their employees have received the training, and the company has to re-file a statement that his or her employees are trained every three years. After receiving the training, workers must also take and pass an exam.
